Centric is one of the most capable PLMs in fashion, and one of the most demanding to run. If it's more platform than your team needs, these are the alternatives worth comparing, grouped by the kind of brand you are.

Centric Software is one of the biggest names in fashion PLM. It's part of Dassault Systèmes, it serves hundreds of brands including names like Louis Vuitton and Under Armour, and its platform reaches well beyond product development into planning, pricing and merchandising.

That breadth is exactly why some brands start looking elsewhere. A platform built for global retailers can be more than a 10- or 30-person brand needs, and it's priced and implemented accordingly. This guide covers the alternatives worth comparing, grouped by size of brand, and is honest about when staying on Centric is the better call.

Full disclosure: we make Specter OS, which is one of the alternatives listed. Where we're not the right fit, we say so.

Why brands look for a Centric alternative

The reasons tend to be the same ones that come up in user reviews of enterprise PLM generally:

  • Cost. Centric doesn't publish pricing. It's sold as an enterprise contract, and reviewers regularly point to implementation and training costs on top of the licence as a significant investment for smaller businesses.
  • Time to go live. Review sites list average implementations of around six months. That's normal for enterprise PLM, but a long time for a brand that needs to fix its tech packs this season.
  • Complexity for the team size. Some reviewers describe a steep learning curve for everyday users. A small team can end up paying for modules and configuration it doesn't use.
  • Data setup and migration. Getting styles, materials and suppliers into the system is described as technically complex and time-consuming, which matters whether you're arriving or leaving.
  • A change in the business. A brand that has downsized, split off from a group or narrowed its range may simply need less than it did when it signed.

Before you switch: is it the platform or the setup?

Switching PLM is expensive in time and attention, so be sure the problem is the platform. Many frustrations with enterprise PLM come from how it was configured, how much training people had, or processes that were never adapted to the tool. Those follow you to the next system.

Ask three questions first:

  • Could reconfiguration fix it? If the complaint is too many fields or confusing screens, a configuration review with Centric or a partner may be cheaper than a migration.
  • Are you using what you pay for? If you rely on planning, pricing or deep ERP integration, an alternative needs to replace those too, not only the development workflow.
  • When does your contract end? Plan the move around your renewal and notice period, not mid-season.

Stay with Centric if you have a large product team, several categories, complex compliance needs and the IT resources to support it. That's the brand Centric is built for, and most alternatives below won't match its depth.

What to compare in an alternative

  • Workflow coverage. List what you actually do in Centric today, such as tech packs, BOMs, sampling, costing, line planning and supplier collaboration, and check each alternative against that list.
  • Time to go live. Ask for a realistic timeline for a brand of your size, and what you need to do yourself.
  • Migration. Ask how styles, BOMs, materials, images and supplier records come across, and who does the work.
  • Supplier access. Check whether factories and trim suppliers get free seats. Paid supplier seats can double the cost of a small-team platform.
  • Pricing you can see. Several alternatives publish per-user prices, which makes budgeting much easier than a quote-based contract.
  • Integrations. If you depend on Adobe Illustrator, 3D tools or your ERP, confirm the connection exists today, not on a roadmap.

Enterprise alternatives to Centric

If you need enterprise depth but want a different vendor, these are the closest like-for-like options.

PTC FlexPLM

PTC's PLM for retail, footwear and apparel, covering line planning, specifications, material sourcing, costing and seasonal calendars. PTC reports more than 1,500 brands and retailers as customers. It's as deep as Centric and comes with a similar implementation effort. Pricing: custom quote.

Bamboo Rose

A PLM and sourcing platform for retailers and brands, which bought the designer-focused Backbone PLM in 2023. A strong option if sourcing and supplier management matter as much as development. Pricing: not published.

WFX

A long-standing fashion PLM and ERP provider for mid-size to large brands and manufacturers, with a broad feature set across PLM and sourcing. Pricing: not published.

Alternatives for growing brands

If Centric is more platform than you need, these modern cloud PLMs cover product development with faster setup and, in most cases, published pricing.

Delogue

A cloud PLM for fashion and lifestyle brands, covering tech packs, sampling, supplier collaboration and costing, with free unlimited supplier logins. Pricing: from €145 per user, per month on annual billing; Premium requires 15 or more users.

Kōbō

A modern PLM with optional modules for operations, supply, sales and delivery, so a growing brand can run more than development in one place. Free supplier access, no setup fees and a 14-day trial. Pricing: from $140 per user, per month, plus modules.

Onbrand

Three tiers covering libraries, live tech packs, line sheets, samples and a vendor portal, with costing, assortment planning and API access on higher tiers. Onboarding is a two-week programme. Pricing: not published.

Lifecycle PLM

An AI-first PLM using AI for concept generation, trend research and tech pack creation, alongside sampling and supplier collaboration. Pricing: not published; demo-led.

Alternatives for small teams

If your team is small and your main need is getting specs, samples and factory communication in one place, a lighter platform will get you working in days.

Specter OS

This is us. Specter OS keeps the tech pack, the sampling history and the factory conversation on one record per style. Factories are invited free, and the platform ships with ready-made material, supplier and CAD libraries, so you aren't starting from an empty database. It was built inside a production agency, by people who've worked on factory floors.

Where we're not a match for Centric: we don't offer merchandise planning, pricing optimisation or deep ERP integration, and our integration library is smaller than the enterprise platforms'. If you rely on those, look at the enterprise options above. Pricing: free Series plan; Signature €40 and Bespoke €100 per user, per month, billed monthly with no lock-in.

Techpacker

A tech pack builder that has grown into a lightweight PLM, with grading rules, BOM libraries and production tracking on the higher plans. Pricing: from $35 per user, per month on annual billing, plus a one-time onboarding fee.

How to move off Centric without losing a season

  • Map what's in the system. List the data you rely on: styles, BOMs, materials, colours, measurement specs, images, supplier records and sample history.
  • Migrate active work, archive the rest. Move the current and next season into the new platform. Export older seasons as an archive rather than rebuilding them.
  • Rebuild your libraries first. Materials, trims and suppliers are reused across every style, so set them up before you move individual styles.
  • Bring factories in early. Invite your main suppliers before the first tech pack goes out, so the first season isn't also their first week on a new tool.
  • Run one season in parallel if you can. Develop new styles in the new platform while finishing the current season in Centric, then switch fully.
  • Time it with your contract. Start the move well before your renewal date, allowing for the notice period.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Centric PLM?

For an enterprise brand, PTC FlexPLM is the closest like-for-like alternative. For a growing brand, Delogue and Kōbō are strong choices with published pricing. For a small team working closely with factories, Specter OS.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Centric?

Yes. Most modern cloud PLMs publish per-user pricing, from free (Specter OS) to around €145 to $210 per user, per month (Delogue, Kōbō), without a separate implementation project.

Who owns Centric Software?

Centric Software is part of Dassault Systèmes, the French software company behind CATIA and SolidWorks.

How long does it take to switch from Centric?

It depends on how much data you move. Moving active seasons only and running one season in parallel is the safest route, which typically means planning the switch over one development cycle rather than a few weeks.

Can small brands use Centric?

They can, and some do. But Centric is designed and priced for larger organisations, so most small brands get more value from a lighter platform until their team and range grow.
